Search Lewis County Court Dockets

A Lewis County court docket records the events and settings in a Tennessee case, but no official countywide trial search is published online. To search the Lewis County court docket, first identify the court and then contact the clerk who keeps that record. Circuit, Criminal, and General Sessions matters start with the Circuit Court Clerk. Chancery and probate matters go to the Clerk & Master, while Hohenwald ordinance cases stay with the city clerk. The state search can help with appeals, but it does not replace the local trial docket. Accurate court dates still come from current papers, counsel, or the holding clerk.

No Lewis County Trial Portal

Odyssey eFileTN only serves courts that opt in. It is a filing channel, not a public docket viewer. Lewis County offers none of that. There is no county trial viewer, no daily docket, and no eFileTN access page, so phone calls, counter service, and clerk-approved written contact remain the dependable routes.

The state does give you one tool: the Tennessee Public Case History search. It covers appeals in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and Court of Criminal Appeals. You can search by case number, style, party, or organization. Just remember it is an appellate index. It is not a Lewis County trial docket.

Before tracing a local court record from an appeal, match the result to its trial court and trial-court case number.

Lewis County Docket Details

A Lewis County court docket works two ways at once. It is a schedule. It is also a procedural record. The Circuit Clerk calls the retained material records and minutes. The Clerk & Master keeps rule and execution dockets too. Each entry is set in time. Filings, settings, orders, and outcomes all get their place. A listed event is not always the document itself, though. When exact text matters, request the actual motion, order, or judgment from the clerk.

Case NumberThe court identifier. 2020-CR-43 is one observed Lewis criminal example, not a universal format.
PartiesThe case style, party roles, and attorneys, subject to access limits.
Docket Entries / FilingsNotices, motions, service events, orders, and other dated activity.
Hearing SettingsA scheduled event that may later be reset or continued.
Court & JudgeThe division holding the matter and its judicial officer.
DispositionThe recorded result, not merely a future hearing date.

Lewis County Justice Center Move

Court in Lewis County does not sit where it once did. Per the Lewis County government homepage, the move came in February 2020. Operations left the old courthouse for the Justice Center. State trial courts now sit at 29 West Main Street in Hohenwald. The historic courthouse at 110 North Park Street still houses county functions, including the County Clerk. It is not today's trial location.

The move changed the visit address, not which clerk owns each case stream. Call ahead before traveling, since office hours differ and the county posts no public-terminal details.

Lewis County Docket Courts

Finding the right court controls the whole docket search in Lewis County. General Sessions takes limited civil cases, misdemeanors, and felony preliminary hearings. Circuit and Criminal courts handle the court-of-record work. Chancery hears equity and domestic-relations matters. The Clerk & Master administers probate. Juvenile records follow special access rules, and Hohenwald Municipal Court keeps its own city-ordinance docket.

Lewis County Clerk Split

The Lewis County department directory lists the Circuit Court Clerk, Clerk & Master, and County Clerk as separate offices.

Lewis County court docket offices in the department directory

Three clerks, three jobs. Barbara Hinson's Circuit office keeps Circuit and General Sessions records and minutes, issues warrants and citations, and collects General Sessions and Criminal Court fines. Kaitlin Bates's Clerk & Master office holds Chancery pleadings, exhibits, minutes, rule and execution dockets, and probate files. Sandra Clayton's County Clerk handles titles, registration, marriage licenses, and other county services. It is not the Circuit or Chancery record counter.

Knowing this split speeds up any case lookup. Staff at the wrong office may still redirect you, but starting with the office that legally holds the record avoids the delay.

Lewis County Court Date Lookups

Where do Lewis County court dates come from? The Circuit Clerk's published answers point to the papers themselves. General Sessions Criminal papers show a date when served or while someone is in custody. A General Sessions Civil warrant carries its date on its face. After bind-over, the clerk mails Criminal Court notice. For Circuit Court, the attorney supplies the date. These sources matter because Lewis County publishes no daily trial calendar.

When you call, ask whether a setting is current, continued, passed, or reset. Confirm the type, time, courtroom, and judge. Juvenile dates may carry access limits. A Hohenwald municipal ticket goes through the city clerk. The full fallback sequence is on the Lewis County court schedule.

Lewis County General Sessions Dates

The General Sessions and Juvenile office listing gives a local scheduling contact at the Justice Center.

Lewis County court docket contact for General Sessions Court

Two numbers cover most date questions. Use 931-796-5547 when a General Sessions or juvenile setting cannot be resolved through the clerk. For Circuit, Criminal, and General Sessions record questions, start at 931-796-3724. A current notice, order, attorney message, or clerk confirmation beats an old note every time. Lewis County posts no Zoom page, weather procedure, or printed calendar. Confirm closures directly with the clerk.

Best evidence: use the newest signed order or notice, then confirm the active setting with counsel or the holding clerk.

Lewis County Docket Access Rules

Tennessee court records start with a presumption of public access. That presumption bends. The local custodian applies statutes, court rules, redaction duties, and sealing orders, so a public entry can identify a filing while the document itself stays restricted. Dependency-and-neglect proceedings are closed, and other juvenile matters can close after the required findings.

Key Rules:

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 defines court records and the general access framework.

Tennessee Rule of Civil Procedure 1A presumes civil court records open and sets the sealing standard.

Juvenile Rule 114 sets special access limits for juvenile proceedings.

Lewis County Copy Choices

Know what you are ordering from the clerk. A docket description, a plain document, and a certified copy are three different products. The docket shows the sequence of events. The filed paper holds the exact text, and certification adds clerk authentication. The Circuit Clerk charges $0.50 per page for regular copies. Certified copies run $5.00 plus $0.50 per page.

Lewis County Chancery Dockets

For Chancery and probate records in Lewis County, begin with the Lewis County Clerk & Master page. It collects local rules, summons and subpoena forms, parenting-class material, and a 2026 court-cost sheet. None of it works as a docket viewer.

Lewis County Chancery court docket and Clerk and Master page

Chancery records split into distinct dockets with different jobs. A rule docket lists matters still waiting on action. An execution docket covers enforcement steps taken after judgment. Probate work spans estates, guardianships, conservatorships, claims, and annual accountings. Some files hold protected data. What you can see depends on the record itself and any court order.

Lewis County Docket History

Courts have not always sat in the same spot. The Lewis County history follows a string of county seats and courthouse buildings, with early sessions held near Blackburn Farm. Gordon and Newburg came before Hohenwald, and after the 1897 courthouse came temporary court space until the 1939 building that stands today.

Lewis County court docket history and courthouse chronology

Older dockets may live only in paper indexes or archived books. A second wrinkle dates to September 1, 2022. That is when Lewis, Hickman, and Perry left the former 21st District to form the 32nd Judicial District. The shift changed how case numbers were assigned. A historic number may look wrong next to current practice. If so, give the clerk the date range and the old district label.

Lewis County Mental Health Docket

The 32nd Judicial District Mental Health Court opened its doors in 2023. Participation is voluntary. The program runs five phases over a minimum term of twelve months, and admission requires the approvals and eligibility findings the county lists.

This program is not a separate public treatment-file search. Procedural events open to the public stay tied to the underlying case and its clerk. Medical and treatment records can be protected, and since the county lists more than one program-office location, confirm where you are headed before visiting.

Lewis County Clerk Confusion

Do not mix up the County Clerk with the Circuit Court Clerk. The County Clerk page covers title work, registration, business taxes, marriage licenses, and related county services.

Lewis County County Clerk distinguished from court docket clerks

None of those duties include keeping the Circuit, Criminal, General Sessions, Chancery, or probate dockets. A caller with a trial matter needs the Circuit Court Clerk or the Clerk & Master instead. Cases from inside Hohenwald city limits go through the municipal clerk.

Lewis County Criminal Docket Scale

The Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts adds helpful context. Its statistics are not a name search, though. Its FY2025 filing and disposition report spans July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. Lewis County logged 414 criminal filings and 464 dispositions in that window. Read those totals with care. The report counts charges, not unique cases or people. So it cannot tell you how many defendants actually entered the court system.

Disposition figures deserve the same caution. The report lists 260 guilty pleas as charged. It also lists 21 guilty pleas to lesser charges, 134 dismissals or nolle prosequi entries, 16 convictions after trial, one acquittal, ten pretrial or judicial diversions, and 22 other outcomes. Those numbers describe reported docket activity across the county. They will not hand you the procedural history or signed judgment for a single case.

Lewis County clerks file this data under Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 11. Treat the summaries as a workload picture. Then return to the Circuit Court Clerk for a particular Lewis County docket. Judge statistics and annual reports show trends too, never party-level records. No statistical category proves any person's charge, plea, or result.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Lewis County

Hohenwald stands alone. It is the only incorporated municipality in Lewis County on the official state and university lists. Its certified 2025 population is 3,668. The city charter makes the city judge keep a docket for ordinance cases. Municipal traffic and parking matters run through the City Court Clerk. A citation may name a different court instead.

The city posts no official citation search, payment portal, or court calendar. Start with the citation in hand, then call 931-796-3223. One more snag: city and state directories disagree on the clerk's address. Confirm the address before you drive over. Then check whether 106 North Court Street or the older 111 West Main listing applies.
